Patti was on the phone I walked into the bedroom, cleared a spot on the edge of the bed and sat down. Taped to the wall was a large piece of drawing paper, partially covered with writing and outlines of a figure She calls these drawings “illuminated manuscripts She hung up and commenced drawing
Patti: You'll just have to ask me questions.
NWR: Some of them may. seem complicated.
Patti: That’s airight. If I don’t understand them you can explain them to me.
NWR: Do you feel you’re pursuing perfection?
Patti: It depends on what I’m. doing. When i’m working within the boundaries of really explored terrftory—drawtng, poems, writing a prose piece, doing an Illumination—that’s right What I’m looking for is to do a piece of work that’s so complete that it can't be questioned That’s how I had to accept Matisse Although I never liked him when I was younger, I’d look at his paintings and they
